Digital Cameras - 10 of the BestThe Fujifilm FinePix F80EXR is a very respectable compact pocket size camera by all accounts. It has a mega-zoom feature that may appeal to some. This particular camera has 12 megapixels which are great for creating large, clear prints. And considering its advanced functions, it is a reasonably priced camera. The EXR sensor has three modes of EXR that can be selected. Because of these different modes, you essentially have three cameras in one. Highest resolution, optimum dynamic range, and lowest possible noise are the three different modes for you to choose from. But the most impressive feature is the F80EXR can also analyze the scene and make the best selection for you to ensure the best picture possible. Next in line for our discussion is the Canon PowerShot SD870 IS. There are not a lot of differences over the SD850 IS camera, but there are some attractive cosmetic differences, though. There is an increase from 8 to 8.3 megapixels and the LCD display is slightly larger being 3 inches rather than 2.5. The camera features advanced technology and the Digic III image processor. This camera has shorter processing time partly due to the phenomenal face detection feature that is capable of detecting up to nine faces. The camera has an updated version that includes a controller pad that is better ergonomically and responsively.
The Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX5 offers a great experience that is less specialized and more of an overall application. This camera does lack jpeg processing abilities but you won't be disappointed in your photos. This is a 10.1 megapixel pocket size camera with a 3 inch TFT LCD display. The LX5 is the follow up to the super successful DMC-LX3. Improving on the LX3 was quite the task for Panasonic.
From what we've seen, the improvements are that much. The LX5 has a sensor that is about 30% more sensitive than the LX3. Because the LX5 LCD uses a higher index for color rendering along with LED back lighting, it has improved color on its prints.
For many reasons, it's a real challenge to choose the best pocket size digital camera. Your best course of action may be to identify your needs, work out your budget, and then find a camera that best meets both. Keep in mind that unless you're planning to print out large prints of the photos, high pixel counts should not be your first priority. It's important not to be swayed by marketing campaigns that might try to convince you that you need high pixel numbers.

Why would you buy a digital camera that doesn't work? Actually allow me to rephrase that slightly. Why would you buy a digital camera that doesn't work FOR YOU? The Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ3K does of course work, and works quite well for some people. But, how do you know your one of those people? You find out, not just by asking what the DMC-TZ3K does, but by asking what it doesn't do. While I'm sure you've had no problem finding reviews telling you why you should buy a Panasonic Lumix, let's take a look at why you shouldn't buy a Panasonic Lumix.
The noise reduction feature in the Lumnix is there to remove image distortion (noise) from your photographs. Noise is often introduced into images, because the manufacturer designed the camera with too many megapixels for the image sensor. Since perspective buyers know megapixels, it's an easy marketing ploy to add more to a camera, and sell more units. Unfortunately, manufacturers (not just Panasonic), don't plaster image size all over their packaging like they do megapixels. In this case the noise reduction feature softens or slightly blurs the images to remove the noise. As a result, image definition and clarity are lost. If you try to blow your pictures up or do extensive cropping, you'll be disappointed with the results from the DMC-TZ3K digital.
The Lumix seems to have a real problem with taking accurate skin and hair tones. So, if you don't mind seeing your kids turn purple, or your blond friends with a touch of red hair, then this is probably not an issue. Playing with the color settings and the white balance may help, but I've heard from several customers that it won't make any difference. The fact that this is a point and shoot implies that customers shouldn't have to fiddle with settings to get good basic skin tones. The Lumix DMC-TZ3K default settings should take care of it.
